Government Employee Salary Increased by About 21%
Through the FY 2083/84 budget, the government of Nepal has introduced a salary adjustment as part of its effort to attract and retain public-sector employees.
As salaries had not been increased for four years, the government has raised employee salaries by about 21 percent through this year’s budget.
The revised salary arrangement applies from Shrawan 1, 2083, which falls on July 17, 2026, as the effective date for FY 2083/84 payroll implementation.
Employees working in government service had long been complaining that their salaries had not been increased.
Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle increased salaries and allowances by applying a formula that reduces the growth of pensioners’ liabilities and encourages working employees.
According to the increased salary, the monthly salary and allowance of one Kharidar has now reached Rs. 56,874. Similarly, that of the Chief Secretary has reached Rs. 104,087.
