Top 5 Districts with the Highest and Lowest Population in Nepal: Results of the 2078 Census

The public National Census 2078 (2021) has revealed that Kathmandu is the most populous district in Nepal, with a population of 20,41,587, accounting for 7 percent of the total population of the country. The census results were released on 24th March 2023.

Top Five Districts with High Population:

  1. Kathmandu: With a population growth rate of 1.51 percent, Kathmandu emerged as the most populous district in Nepal, accounting for 7 percent of the total population.
  2. Morang: Morang district is the second most populous district with a population of 11,48,156, accounting for 3.94 percent of the total population. Its population growth rate is 1.66 percent.
