Program Aim
JTA-Plant Science aims to produce Junior Technical Assistants in the field of agriculture plant science. The program prepares basic-level technical human resources who can provide agriculture-related services to communities and support the need for junior-level manpower in Nepal’s agriculture sector.
The course is designed for students interested in crop production, seed production, horticulture, vegetable production, soil management, plant protection, farm machinery, irrigation, mushroom cultivation, aquaculture, and agriculture-based self-employment.
Curriculum Structure
The program is completed through classroom and practical training followed by on-the-job training. The academic component runs for 18 months, and the on-the-job training component runs for 6 months.
The curriculum focuses on the work performed by junior-level agriculture technicians in Nepal. It combines agriculture knowledge with practical skills in farm management and community-level agriculture services.
Key study areas include agriculture extension and community development, entrepreneurship development, crop and crop seed production, plant propagation and ornamental horticulture, vegetable and vegetable seed production, fruit cultivation, post-harvest horticulture, plantation crops, agriculture ecology and sustainable soil management, plant protection, integrated pest management, farmer field school practices, apiculture, sericulture, mushroom cultivation, farm machinery, farm structure, irrigation, aquaculture, and on-the-job training.
Eligibility and Admission
Eligibility: Candidates who have passed SLC with any grade and any GPA since the implementation of the letter grading system are eligible. Candidates who appeared in SLC before the implementation of the letter grading system are also eligible.
Admission: Candidates must pass the entrance examination administered by CTEVT.
Attendance Requirement: Students must maintain at least 90% attendance in theory and practical classes or performance activities to be eligible for internal assessments and final examinations.
Learning Outcomes
The program prepares students to work as Junior Technical Assistants in agriculture plant science. Students develop basic-level skills needed to support agriculture services at the community level.
Graduates are trained to assist in crop and seed production, vegetable and fruit cultivation, plant propagation, soil management, plant protection, farm machinery use, irrigation support, mushroom cultivation, and aquaculture-related activities. The course also develops practical understanding of agriculture extension, community development, and entrepreneurship.
The program supports self-employment by preparing students to start agriculture-related work in plant science and farm management areas.
Practical Learning at Rapti Technical School
Rapti Technical School has more than ten hectares of land and facilities that support technical and practical learning. The school has laboratories, workshop, library, training building, classrooms, student hostel with 100 beds and canteen, guesthouse, staff quarters, livestock farm, horticultural farm and orchard, human and veterinary clinic, and private water source.
For JTA-Plant Science students, the horticultural farm and orchard support practical learning in plant-related areas. Agriculture-based practical work, on-the-job training, classroom learning, and field-oriented activities help students build skills for junior-level agriculture services.
