Program Aim

The Diploma in Pharmacy prepares middle-level skilled health professionals with knowledge, skills, and attitudes in the pharmacy discipline. The program is linked with pharmacy services for patients and clients, pharmacy service operation, production and preparation of medicines, and assessment of medicine quality.

The course is designed for the work performed by pharmacy assistants at different levels of public and private health institutions in Nepal.

Curriculum Structure

The program runs for three years under the yearly system. One academic year consists of 35 academic weeks or 210 working days, and one academic week consists of 40 hours excluding the examination period.

The first year focuses on core and academic courses. The second year covers pharmacy-related disciplinary courses. The third year includes disciplinary courses with the application of learned skills and knowledge. The third year also includes comprehensive clinical and community field practice-based workplace learning.

Key study areas include pharmaceutics, pharmacology, pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmacognosy, biochemistry and microbiology, pharmacotherapeutics, pharmaceutical management, public health pharmacy, hospital and clinical pharmacy, pharmaceutical jurisprudence and community pharmacy practice, and comprehensive professional field practice.

Eligibility and Admission

Eligibility: Candidates must have passed SEE with a minimum GPA of 2.0 and C grade in Compulsory English, Mathematics, and Science.

Candidates who have passed SLC with English, Science, and Mathematics or equivalent are also eligible.

Admission: Candidates must submit SEE or SLC pass certificates and a citizenship or birth registration certificate. They must pass the entrance examination administered by CTEVT.

Selection: Applicants fulfilling the entry qualification and entry criteria are selected for admission on the basis of the merit list.

Attendance Requirement: A minimum of 90% attendance in each subject is required to appear in the respective final examination.

Learning Outcomes

The program prepares students to advise patients about medicines, including how to take them, possible reactions, and answers to patient questions. Students learn to apply standards, guidelines, best practices, and established processes related to safe and effective medication use.

The course also develops skills for medication services in hospitals and community settings. Students are trained to read and interpret prescriptions, check the suitability of prescribed medicines, manage quality supply of pharmaceuticals, and promote rational use of medicine within healthcare facilities and community pharmacies.

The program also covers production and preparation of medicines, assessment of medicine quality before supply to patients, and professional attitudes required for pharmacy-related work.

Practical Learning at Rapti Technical School

Rapti Technical School has more than ten hectares of land and facilities that support classroom and practical technical education. The school has laboratories, workshop, library, training building, classrooms, student hostel with 100 beds and canteen, guesthouse, staff quarters, livestock farm, horticultural farm and orchard, human and veterinary clinic, and private water source.

For pharmacy students, laboratories, classrooms, and supervised practical learning are central to the academic setting. The program includes hospital and community pharmacy practice, industry practice, project work, and comprehensive professional field practice as part of its learning approach.
