Program Aim
The Diploma in Civil Engineering aims to produce middle-level technical personnel in civil engineering with academic knowledge and technical skills that can be applied in practical work situations.
The program is connected with Nepal’s infrastructure development needs and prepares civil engineering technicians for work related to roads, irrigation, water supply, urban development, building construction, and other civil infrastructure sectors.
Curriculum Structure
The course runs for three academic years under the semester system. Each academic year is divided into two semesters, making six semesters in total. Each semester consists of 19.5 academic weeks including the evaluation period, with actual teaching-learning hours of not less than 15 weeks in each semester.
The curriculum includes foundational subjects such as physics, chemistry, and mathematics. It also includes Nepali and English for communication in technical and professional settings. Civil engineering subjects are included throughout the semesters, along with project work and elective subjects in specific areas of civil engineering.
Key study areas include surveying, workshop practice, fluid mechanics and hydraulics, building construction, engineering materials, construction drawing and CAD, estimating and costing, mechanics of structure, soil mechanics and foundation engineering, water supply engineering, reinforced concrete structure design, transportation engineering, sanitary engineering, construction management, steel and timber structure design, field survey camp, water resources and irrigation engineering, entrepreneurship development, and project work.
Eligibility and Admission
Eligibility: Candidates must have passed SLC or SEE with a minimum C grade in Compulsory Mathematics and Science and D+ in English.
Candidates who have completed Pre-Diploma in Civil Engineering with a minimum of 67.00% are also eligible.
Admission: Candidates must pass the entrance examination administered by CTEVT.
Attendance Requirement: A minimum of 90% attendance in each subject is required to appear in the respective final examination.
Learning Outcomes
The program prepares students to work as civil engineering technicians in public and private infrastructure sectors. It develops technical capacity for supervisory work in civil engineering and supports the preparation of middle-level technical human resources for infrastructure development in Nepal.
Students are trained for civil engineering work linked with roads, irrigation, water supply, urban development, building construction, and related departments and sectors. Practical Learning at Rapti Technical School
Rapti Technical School has more than ten hectares of land and facilities that support classroom and practical technical education. The school has laboratories, workshop, library, training building, classrooms, student hostel with 100 beds and canteen, guesthouse, staff quarters, livestock farm, horticultural farm and orchard, human and veterinary clinic, and private water source.
For civil engineering students, the laboratories, workshop, classrooms, drawing and CAD-related learning, surveying activities, field survey camp, and project work support the practical side of the three-year program.
