Program Aim

The Diploma in Hydropower Engineering aims to produce middle-level technical personnel with academic knowledge and technical skills for practical work in hydropower and civil engineering-related fields.

The course is designed to prepare technicians for Nepal’s physical infrastructure and hydropower sector. It supports technical workforce development for work connected with roads, irrigation, water supply, urban development, building construction, and hydropower infrastructure.

Curriculum Structure

The program runs for three years under the semester system. Each year consists of two semesters, making six semesters in total. Each semester consists of 19.5 academic weeks including the evaluation period, with actual teaching-learning hours of not less than 15 weeks in each semester.

The first year focuses on foundational and core engineering subjects. The second year covers basic disciplinary subjects of civil engineering and hydropower engineering. The third year includes disciplinary subjects, elective subjects, minor project work, and major project work.

Key study areas include communication English, engineering mathematics, engineering physics, engineering chemistry, workshop practice, engineering drawing, engineering materials, computer application, surveying, applied mechanics, basic hydraulics, building construction, construction drawing, computer-aided drafting, engineering geology, principles of management and costing, estimating and costing, mechanics of structure, soil mechanics, hydrology and irrigation, structural design and drawing, road engineering, water supply and sanitary engineering, hydropower engineering, survey camp, entrepreneurship development, construction management, major project, micro hydropower, hydropower structures, and energy management.

Eligibility and Admission

Eligibility: Candidates must have passed SLC or SLC/SEE with a minimum C grade in Compulsory Mathematics and Science and D+ in Compulsory English.

Candidates who have completed TSLC in Engineering with a minimum of 66.68% are also eligible.

Admission: Candidates must pass the entrance examination administered by CTEVT.

Attendance Requirement: A minimum of 90% attendance in each subject is required to appear in the respective final examination.

Learning Outcomes

The program prepares students to work as hydropower engineering technicians and hydropower sub-engineering-level technical human resources. Students develop technical capacity for hydropower engineering works and civil engineering supervisory functions.

Graduates are trained for technical roles linked with road, irrigation, water supply, urban development, building construction, and hydropower infrastructure development. The program also supports professional attitude, respect for the profession, initiative, and self-employment opportunities in hydropower and infrastructure-related fields.

Practical Learning at Rapti Technical School
