Eligibility and admission

What students study

First year

First-year study establishes the scientific and general academic base needed for radiography. The curriculum includes foundational areas such as English, Nepali, Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics before students move into discipline-specific radiography subjects.

Second year

The second-year curriculum includes:

Radiographic Technique covers routine and supplementary examinations involving the upper and lower limbs, chest, abdomen, spine, pelvis, and skull. It also introduces basic dental radiography, patient identification, registration procedures, record keeping, and radiation protection.

Radiological Procedures deals with specialized investigations, including procedures using contrast media, as well as mammography and portable or mobile X-ray examinations.

Radiographic Imaging includes conventional and digital imaging concepts, image processing, CR and DR systems, image artefacts, PACS, and teleradiology. Basic Radiation Physics addresses X-ray production, equipment, radiation interaction, measurement, protection, and dose-reduction principles.

Third year

Third-year study consists of:

Clinical Practice and Ethics covers bedside radiography, workplace safety, patient transfer and positioning, communication, medical ethics, professional responsibilities, and the role of the Nepal Health Professional Council.

Practical and clinical learning

Practical training forms a substantial part of the later stage of the program. Students apply radiographic positioning and examination techniques in supervised settings and work with routine procedures involving the extremities, thoracic cage, abdomen, spine, pelvis, and skull.

Clinical practice also addresses patient identification, request forms, radiation protection, equipment preparation, communication, and record keeping. Students maintain practical records or logbooks during their postings and perform assigned procedures under supervision.

Examination and assessment

Students must maintain at least 90% attendance in each subject to become eligible for the respective final examination. Theory and practical components are assessed separately, and students must pass both components for certification.

The minimum pass mark is 40% in theory and 40% in practical. Internal assessment requirements must also be completed before students can appear in the final examination. Practical assessment includes attendance, logbook maintenance, practical performance, and viva voce.

Students who successfully complete all required components across all three academic years receive the Certificate in Diagnostic Radiography.
