9th PEC Engineering Exhibition draws attention in Pokhara

The ninth edition of the PEC Engineering Exhibition, organized by Pokhara Engineering College, began in Pokhara from Wednesday, Magh 14, 2082 (January 28, 2026). The exhibition has attracted the attention of the general public, students, teachers, and stakeholders from the education sector.
Students show interest in the model sky bridge
Students from Shivshakti Secondary School who came to observe the exhibition stopped with particular interest at the “model sky bridge” built for crossing roads.
They responded that such structures are needed at most intersections in Pokhara to reduce accidents caused by increasing traffic pressure and the tendency of pedestrians to cross roads irregularly.
Visitors describe the exhibition as project-based
Padma Fagami, a Grade 12 student, said she initially thought the exhibition would be like a regular fair or festival.
However, after observing it, she said most of the displays were inventions and project-type works.
Principals and stakeholders highlight skill-focused learning
Kiran KC, Principal of La Grandee College, said such expos provide an important opportunity for students to present themselves and their inventions to the public.
Recalling that during his time studying engineering there was debate that the curriculum was not practical, market-oriented, and connected to professional skills, he said students now have the opportunity to practice professional skills along with knowledge.
He added that, through internet use, it has become easier for students to learn about global market demand and conditions and to compete.
Feedback notes improvements from the previous edition
Rameshkumar Acharya, Plus Two In-Charge at Balodaya Secondary School, said it appears suggestions given during the eighth edition of the expo were considered and improvements were made this time.
He responded that most projects are of a kind that can be directly used in Pokhara and surrounding areas.
Industry perspective raises workforce absorption concerns
Shobha Gautam, General Secretary of the Pokhara Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said that although the education sector has a role in developing students’ qualifications, skills, and capacity, industrial development needed to absorb the produced workforce is in a weak state.
She emphasized that the government to be formed now should either make policies for the workforce to be absorbed within the country or create an enabling environment for the private sector to operate industries.
Organizers urge local governments and businesses to visit
Dr. Sailesh Gurung, Director of Pokhara Engineering College and Chair of the inauguration ceremony, urged local governments, industrialists, and businesspeople to observe the exhibition.
He said this is important to encourage students and to develop and bring into use the innovations they have created in the future.
Chief guest outlines three foundations for quality education
Chief guest Ramji Sharma, Chair of HISAN Gandaki, said three fundamental aspects are necessary for quality education.
He said, “First is the curriculum, second is the pedagogical concept of the curriculum—that is, the practice of learning rather than teaching—and third is the evaluation system.”
He emphasized that such activities should be encouraged for education and national prosperity.
Stating that the main reasons students go abroad are employment and quality education, he said arrangements are needed to create opportunities in Nepal.
First-day turnout and school participation
Assistant Principal Yam Thapamagar said the exhibition has been effective as a practice of presenting students’ theoretical knowledge in functional fields.
According to him, more than 2,000 people observed the exhibition on the first day, including more than 600 students from 35 schools.

The exhibition will run for two days. Students have displayed more than 60 creative and innovative projects.
