
Sanat Rachana Story Award 2081 Honours Writer Shreyaj Subedi
Madhyapaschim Srashta Samaj has presented the Sanat Rachana Story Award 2081 to author and storyteller Shreyaj Subedi for his short story collection Bahurupi.
The award ceremony was held in Nepalgunj under the chief guestship of Prof. Krishna Prasad Ghimire and the chairmanship of Birendra Jaisi, President of Madhyapaschim Srashta Samaj. Subedi was honoured with a cash prize of NPR 11,111, a certificate of honour, and a ceremonial shawl.
About the Award and Selection
The Sanat Rachana Story Award is exclusively given to a short story collection and its author. According to the award’s founder and senior storyteller Sanat Regmi, the selection committee chose Bahurupi as the best collection among those published in 2071 B.S. Regmi shared that he established this honour in the name of himself and his wife to encourage literary excellence.

During the program, critic Dammar B.C. shared his views on the honoured collection. He praised Subedi’s debut work for its powerful language and strong grasp of themes, stating that it shows Subedi’s potential to become a significant storyteller. He also advised the writer to gradually reduce the cinematic style and imagery present in the stories.
Author’s Reaction and Future Commitment
Speaking at the event, Subedi expressed his happiness at receiving the first award of his life and said it has encouraged him to write even better stories.
Chief Guest Ghimire encouraged Subedi to use the award as inspiration to produce more remarkable works in the future.
President Jaisi, on behalf of the Srashta Samaj, committed to giving priority to more high-quality books and writers in upcoming awards.
