Overview
Vyas Municipality is an urban municipality in Tanahun District, Gandaki Province, Nepal. Its administrative headquarters is located in Damauli, which is also the district headquarters of Tanahun. The municipality was declared in Chaitra 2048 BS after the restoration of multiparty democracy in Nepal.
Located along the Prithvi Highway, Vyas Municipality lies about 150 km west of Kathmandu and about 50 km east of Pokhara. Damauli’s position on the Kathmandu–Pokhara route gives the municipality a clear geographic role within Tanahun District.

Location and Boundaries
Vyas Municipality is located on the Prithvi Highway, about 150 km west of Kathmandu and 50 km east of Pokhara. It includes Damauli, the district headquarters of Tanahun.
The municipality is bordered by Bhanu Municipality and Bandipur Rural Municipality to the east, Myagde Rural Municipality and Shuklagandaki Municipality to the west, Lamjung and Kaski districts to the north, and Rishing Rural Municipality and Devghat Rural Municipality to the south.
Formation and Administrative Development
Vyas Municipality was declared in Chaitra 2048 BS by incorporating Damauli Village Development Committee and some areas of Syamgha Village Development Committee.
According to the decision of the Council of Ministers of the Government of Nepal dated Mangsir 16, 2071 BS, Pokharibhanjyang Village Development Committee was merged into the municipality.
As per the notice published in the Nepal Gazette on Falgun 27, 2073 BS, the municipality was reorganized under the federal structure. The Office of the Municipal Executive, Vyas Municipality, was formed by incorporating the entire areas of Syamgha and Kyamin Village Development Committees; wards 4–9 of Tanahunsur Village Development Committee; wards 2–7 of Keshavtar Village Development Committee; wards 2–8 of Ghasikuwa Village Development Committee; wards 1–5 and 7–9 of Risti Village Development Committee; and wards 6–9 of Satiswara Village Development Committee.
Area, Wards, and Geography
Vyas Municipality covers 248.00 square kilometres and is divided into 14 wards. As of Ashar 30, 2080 BS, the municipality had 246 settlements.
Wards 1, 2, 3, and 4 fall under the urban area. Wards 5 and 10 fall under the semi-urban area. All remaining wards fall under the rural area.
The municipality lies at an altitude ranging from 280 metres to 1,245 metres above sea level. Its climate ranges from temperate to subtropical. The recorded temperature ranges from a minimum of 8.40°C to a maximum of 37.00°C, while the average annual rainfall is 1,960.6 mm.
Population and Literacy
According to the National Census 2078 BS, Vyas Municipality had a total population of 78,939, including 36,157 males and 42,782 females. The municipality had 22,585 households.
The population density was 318.30 persons per square kilometre. The literacy rate was 85.3%.
Cultural and Social Context
Vyas Municipality is located on the sacred confluence bank of the Seti and Madi rivers. The area is associated with Maharshi Ved Vyas and Parashar.
The main caste and ethnic groups in the municipality include Brahmin, Magar, Chhetri, Darai, Newar, Gurung, and Kami. The Darai community is identified in the municipal context as an important community of the area.
Local cultural traditions include Chudka, Ghatu, Kaura, Bhailo, Jhyaware, and traditional Teej songs and dances.
Livelihood and Agriculture
