Student Enrollment Extremely Low in Salyan Community Schools: Need for School Consolidation
Salyan — Student enrollment in community schools across Salyan district has been found to be extremely low. Due to the shortage of students, there is now a clear need to review school consolidation, teacher management, and the overall education policy framework in the district.
According to stakeholders working in the education sector, the number of students in community schools has been declining due to migration, a decrease in the birth rate, the attraction of parents and students toward private schools, and problems of access. Student numbers are even lower in rural and remote parts of the district.
In some places, although the number of schools is high, the number of students is low, creating major challenges in maintaining educational quality and managing resources.
According to the 2082 academic session data of the Education Development and Coordination Unit, Salyan, out of a total of 432 schools in the district, 176 schools have fewer than 50 students. Likewise, 266 schools in the district have fewer than 100 students.
