In Nepal today, the “Digital Nepal Framework” and the international “Outsourcing” market have created a surge in IT-sector employment. If we look at the 2024–2025 figures, Nepal is exporting more than USD 500 million worth of IT services annually.

However, many students still have a major confusion:

BSc CSIT

In Nepal, this course is often considered “equivalent to engineering” in IT, or more specifically, a “Computer Science Core.”

1) Curriculum Reality

BSc CSIT is not only about learning to code. It is the science of understanding “how computers work.”

1) Curriculum and Practical Focus

In BCA, you do not need to study complex Physics or Chemistry. Its main focus is “Application Development.”

  • Core Subjects: Java, Web Technology, Python, Mobile App Development, and Project Management

  • Project Heavy: BCA has compulsory and heavy projects in semesters 4, 6, and 8. This makes students job-ready faster.

  • Update (Syllabus 2024–25): Based on recent revisions, elective subjects such as Cloud Computing and AI are now placed in the 7th semester.

2) Biggest Advantage: “Any Stream Entry”

The strongest point of BCA is its openness.

  • Eligibility: Students from Science, Management, Humanities, or Education can study BCA after +2 (minimum D Grade or CGPA 2.0/1.8 as per rules).

  • Maths vs Code: BIT includes math, but less than CSIT, and it is slightly more technical than BCA.

  • Why? Without the stress of Physics/Chemistry, it provides a direct entry into software engineering. Instead of spending Rs. 8–10 lakh for private CSIT, study BCA in Rs. 4–5 lakh and invest the remaining money and time in professional IT certifications (such as AWS, Google Cloud).

Case 3: You are interested not only in coding, but also in systems, networks, and business management.

  • Recommendation: Choose BIT.

  • Why? Corporate houses and banks currently have high demand for BIT graduates as IT Officers. Since IOST schedules are stricter and more timely than BCA, BIT can be a safer option if studying at TU.

No matter which IT College you choose (BCA, BIT, or CSIT), the syllabus alone will not get you a job. Nepal’s curricula can be 5–6 years old, but the market changes every 6 months.

  • Rule of Thumb: Apart from college time (morning), allocate 4 hours daily to work on projects on your own laptop.

  • By the third year, you must have at least 3 “live projects” (Website, App, or System) in your hands.
