Year-wise Structure

First Year

The first year carries 600 marks. It includes communication skills, professional core study, specialization major courses and specialization minor courses.

Compulsory and core subjects include:

Students also begin their selected major and minor specialization subjects in the first year.

Second Year

The second year carries 600 marks. It includes Educational Psychology as a core subject, along with continuation of major and minor specialization subjects.

The second year helps students understand learning, development and subject-specific academic foundations for teacher preparation.

Third Year

The third year carries 500 marks. It includes Curriculum and Evaluation as a core subject, along with major and minor specialization courses.

This year is important for students because it introduces curriculum-related understanding, evaluation concepts and teaching-method courses in different specialization areas.

Fourth Year

The fourth year carries 500 marks. It includes Teaching Practice and one elective professional course.

The elective professional course may be selected from:

  • ICT in Education

  • ICT in Specialized Subject

Students also complete remaining major and minor specialization courses in the fourth year.

Eligibility

Students with Higher Secondary Education Examination Pass Certificate, Grade 12 pass, Proficiency Certificate Level of Tribhuvan University or an equivalent qualification are eligible for admission to the B.Ed. program.

Additional entry requirements apply for different major specialization areas. These include subject-specific requirements for Nepali Education, English Education, Mathematics Education, Science Education, Health and Physical Education, Population Education, Geography Education, Economics Education, Political Science Education and History Education.

Major-specific Entry Requirements

For Nepali Education, students need Grade 12 or PCL with Nepali major of at least 200 marks.

For English Education, students need Grade 12 or PCL with English or Linguistics major, or Grade 12 or PCL with 50 percent marks in General English. Candidates may also qualify by securing 50 percent marks in the entrance examination conducted by the respective department of the campus.

For Mathematics Education, students need Grade 12 or PCL with Mathematics major containing at least 200 marks.

For Science Education, students need Grade 12 or PCL with Physics, Chemistry and Biology, each carrying at least 100 full marks.

For Health and Physical Education, students may come from Health and Physical Education, Science, Population, Home Science, Nursing or related subject backgrounds. Students without a Health and Physical Education background must pass the physical fitness entrance test conducted by the respective department of the campus. Candidates without physical disability are eligible to study Health and Physical Education.

For Population Education, eligible backgrounds include Population Studies, Geography, Economics, Health and Physical Education, Community Health, Science, Mathematics, Home Science, Civics, Social Service, Nursing or Commerce.

For Geography Education, Economics Education, Political Science Education and History Education, Grade 12, PCL or equivalent from any faculty is accepted.

Minor Subject Selection

Minor subject areas are generally open to students regardless of their previous study areas in Grade 11, Grade 12 or PCL, except Science Education minor in Biology. Only students majoring in Physical Science can select Biology as a minor.

Students must select a minor subject different from their major subject area. For example, a student majoring in Nepali Education cannot select Nepali Education as a minor.

Teaching and Learning Approach

The B.Ed. program combines subject knowledge with professional teacher preparation. Students study education foundations, psychology, curriculum, evaluation, teaching methods, specialization content and practicum.
