Padma Kanya Campus Marks 160th Moti Jayanti

PK Campus Celebrates 160th Moti Jayanti

Padma Kanya Multiple Campus (PK Campus, Bagbazar, Kathmandu) organized a poetry competition to celebrate the 160th Moti Jayanti. On the occasion of the campus’s 75th Diamond Jubilee, the 160th Moti Jayanti of Motiram Bhatt, the 36th anniversary of the Nepali postgraduate program, and a felicitation ceremony for retired professors were held today.

During the program, Associate Professor Upama Acharya, who completed three decades of teaching in the Nepali Department, was honored. The event was chaired by the Head of the Nepali Department, Associate Professor Dr. Ambika Aryal.

Associate Professor Dr. Shailenduprakash Nepal stated, “During the secondary period, Motiram Bhatt played a special role in elevating Nepali literature and romanticism to a golden stage. He was a synonym for the poetic legacy of Bhanubhakta. This celebration of Bhatt’s birth anniversary and the establishment of the postgraduate Nepali program is a special and historic event of Padma Kanya Campus, aimed at nurturing, preserving, and promoting the Nepali language and literature and producing skilled human resources in this field.”

The Nepali postgraduate program was established 36 years ago on Bhadra 5, with the initiative of academic figures including the then Campus Chief Chetanath Gautam. Associate Professor Prabha Bhattarai, who has been continuously teaching in the postgraduate program since its inception in 2048 B.S., recalled her early teaching experiences. She remarked that Padma Kanya is a campus established for women’s empowerment.

She shared, “Immediately after completing my postgraduate studies, at the request of the then Campus Chief Chetanath Gautam, I began teaching. Though my students were initially older—like aunts and sisters—later they became like friends, making it easier. It was an honor to teach at Padma Kanya, the only campus opened exclusively for women to empower them. This temple of education, which took the first step toward women’s education, has already completed 75 years of service.”

On the occasion of the Diamond Jubilee, the Literary Subcommittee organized week-long literary events including an essay competition on Bhadra 2, an oratory contest on Bhadra 3, a quiz contest on Bhadra 4, and today’s poetry competition, according to Subcommittee Coordinator Associate Professor Dr. Baldev Adhikari. He stated that the Diamond Jubilee was celebrated through these literary programs.

Each day, dozens of students actively participated in the events. In the essay competition, winners were Rachana Sapkota (first), Keshis Shah (second), and Asmita Kumari Majhi (third). In the oratory contest, winners were Parvati Baniya (first), Isha Dhungana and Aastha Shrestha (second), and Sirjana Tamang (third).

In the quiz competition, the team led by Manisha Yadav won first place, the team led by Anamika Regmi secured second, and the team led by Samikshya Paudel took third. In today’s poetry competition, winners were Pustika Bhandari (first), Samikshya Nepal (second), and Kamala Mahat (third).

According to the campus administration, the program was attended by Campus Chief Prof. Dr. Jayalakshmi Pradhan, Prof. Dr. Sushmita Talukdar, Associate Professor Nepal, as well as campus professors, staff, and students. Established in 2008 B.S. with the aim of providing education for women, Padma Kanya Multiple Campus will celebrate its 75th Diamond Jubilee with a special ceremony on its foundation day, Ashoj 1.
