Maiwakhola Rural Municipality

Maiwakhola Rural Municipality (Gaupalika - मैवाखाेला गाउँपालिका) was formed in 2017 by merging three former Village Development Committees: Dhungesanghu, Sanghu, and Phakumba. It is located in the easternmost district of Nepal, Taplejung. The municipality is bordered by:

• Aathrai Tribeni Rural Municipality to the east

• Panchkhapan Municipality and Chainpur Municipality of Sankhuwasabha district to the west

• Meringden Rural Municipality of Taplejung district to the northeast

• Menchhayayem Rural Municipality of the Tehrathum district to the south

Currently, Maiwakhola comprises a total of six ward offices.

Administrative and Constitutional Structure

Politically, Maiwakhola lies within Electoral Constituency 'Kha' of Taplejung district. As per the current Constitution of Nepal, it operates as one of the local levels of government under the federal system.

The municipality is governed by elected representatives. Its functions and responsibilities are guided by the constitutional schedules defined for local governments. Presently, it is managed under the Local Government Operation Act, 2074 BS.

Its relationship with the federal and provincial governments is based on the principles of coexistence, coordination, and cooperation.
