FWU Land Encroachment at Tikapur Campus
Three hundred bighas of land belonging to Far Western University have been encroached. The land is part of the university’s constituent Tikapur Multiple Campus.
According to Vice Chancellor Hemraj Pant, out of 380 bighas allocated to Tikapur Multiple Campus, 300 bighas have been encroached.
In 2062 BS, the Tikapur Development Committee provided 380 bighas for establishing the campus. To date, the campus has been able to use only 80 bighas.
Nature of Encroachment
The encroached 300 bighas have been taken in the names of freed bonded laborers (muktakamaiya) and landless squatters.
University’s Requests
The university has repeatedly appealed to the federal and provincial governments to reclaim the encroached land. The Vice Chancellor stated that these requests have not been heard.
Recent Decision
The Executive Council recently decided to demand the formation of a high-level investigation commission to recover the encroached land.
Reported Political Protection
The individuals who have encroached on the university’s land are said to be protected by various political parties, which has made removal difficult.
