
Kanti Secondary School's Continued Emphasis on Science Education
Kanti Secondary School, located in Butwal Sub-Metropolitan City Ward No. 4, has consistently specialized in science education.
Among the top ten community schools in Nepal in terms of student enrollment, the school is actively implementing science promotion programs under the School Development Plan for the current fiscal year, in coordination with the government.
The Ministry of Education, in collaboration with Butwal Sub-Metropolitan City, is conducting science-related programs under 11 different categories. In 2074 BS, the Lumbini Province Government supported the school with infrastructure and other assistance to develop it as a science model school.
The Ministry of Education of Nepal has also included Kanti Secondary School in its list of ten major community schools for science promotion, according to Madhav Banjade, Head of the Education Development and Coordination Unit, Rupandehi.
Science Education Supported Under 12 Key Agreements
According to Mayor Khel Raj Pandey of Butwal Sub-Metropolitan City, the school has signed agreements under 12 program areas to strengthen science education.
He shared that most computer-related training programs are conducted in the school’s own laboratory. A notable number of students have chosen computer science as an elective. With growing interest in English-medium instruction, along with subjects like computer and science, the overall quality of education has steadily improved.

In addition, programs are ongoing for internet and network infrastructure expansion, installation of smart boards and TVs, software security, and software renewal.
Student Enrollment and Facilities
Currently, 500 students are enrolled in Grade 11 science. The school hostel, designed to accommodate 400 students, currently houses 300. Due to increasing student numbers, six hostel rooms have been converted into classrooms.
In Grade 12, the school offers programs in Science, Management, Education, and Humanities streams. Under the Management stream, Hotel Management is also being taught. Due to its strong academic performance and well-structured management, Kanti Secondary School has become Nepal’s first ISO-certified community school.
Faculty and Innovation in Teaching
Assistant Principal Kedar Nath Gyawali stated that teachers regularly receive refresher training for professional development.
According to Mohan Bhattarai, Coordinator of the Grade 11/12 Science Group, students with interest in research and technology have shown excellent academic results. Recently, the school organized a three-day training for 35 teachers on identifying potential risks in laboratory work.
Future Plans and Ethical Education
In the coming years, the school plans to enhance the Montessori classroom, transition into a digital smart school, and aim for a 100% pass rate among students.
According to the student enrollment list published by the Ministry of Education, Kanti Secondary School is currently the fourth-largest school in the country. Since Grade 6, the school has offered Sanskrit as an elective, with the goal of fostering ethical and cultural development among students.
Expert Opinions on Kanti's Progress
Former District Education Officer and education expert Tek Bahadur Thapa commended the consistent progress of Kanti Secondary School and its leading efforts in science education. He also noted that the school’s successful practices serve as a model for other community schools across Nepal.
