Teachers Demand Age Limit of 40 in School Education Bill 2080

During discussions in Parliament on the School Education Bill 2080, stakeholders have demanded that the teacher service entry age limit be set at 40 years.

With the demand to fix the age limit at 40 and ensure a proper sequence of academic qualifications, the National Struggle Committee submitted a memorandum to the Education Committee.

On Sunday, Committee Coordinator Bhakta Bahadur Budha and Co-coordinator Govinda Bhandari handed over the memorandum. In it, objections were raised against advancing the bill without including 40 years as the age limit and specifying educational qualifications for basic levels such as primary and lower secondary, requiring at least Plus Two.

The memorandum highlighted that excluding the requirement of Plus Two for primary and lower secondary levels is unacceptable. The committee expressed that such omission undermines the quality and standards of education.

The committee emphasized that the issues they raised had already been agreed upon with the Government of Nepal in the past. They argued that the government has no authority to back away from those agreements.

The committee further stated:

“Overall, the matters we have raised are national issues and reflect the demands of the youth. Therefore, these subjects should not be taken lightly. The youth should not be undermined or misled under foreign influence. Instead, the matter should be taken seriously as per Articles 17, 33, and 34 of the Constitution, which ensure the rights of all Nepali citizens. The legal rights previously achieved should not be undermined, nor should the Constitution be affected.”
