Pokhara University Establishes Constituent Campus in Lalitpur

Pokhara University Brings Constituent Campus into Operation in Lalitpur

Pokhara University has officially brought a constituent campus into operation in Lalitpur, expanding its presence beyond Pokhara. Previously, the university had four constituent campuses in Pokhara.

From this academic year, Shramik Shanti Campus, located in Chyasal, Lalitpur, has been recognized as a constituent campus of Pokhara University.

This marks the first campus of Pokhara University within the Kathmandu Valley.

Decision and Transition

According to Buddhiraj Joshi, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology, the university’s Executive Council made the decision to bring the campus under Pokhara University’s management.

Shramik Shanti Campus was previously a community campus affiliated with Tribhuvan University (TU).

“We reached an agreement with the campus to make it a constituent campus,” said Dean Joshi. “Now, Shramik Shanti Campus is officially under Pokhara University.”

With this transition, the academic programs affiliated with Tribhuvan University have been suspended. While no new admissions will be taken under TU from this year onward, currently enrolled students will be allowed to complete their studies under TU affiliation.

However, all administrative and academic management responsibilities will now be handled by Pokhara University. “We have suspended TU’s programs, and from now on, Pokhara University’s programs will be conducted here,” Joshi announced during a press conference held on Friday.

New Academic Programs Under Pokhara University

Pokhara University announced that the campus will now offer the following undergraduate programs:

  • Bachelor of Laws (BALLB)

  • Bachelor of Computer Systems and Information Technology (BSc CSIT)

  • Bachelor of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science (BAIDS)

These programs will operate under the semester system, where 80% of seats are fee-paying and 20% are offered under scholarships. The total cost of study is estimated to be under NPR 500,000 for the four-year program.

Scholarships will prioritize students from community schools, remote and marginalized areas, and conflict-affected backgrounds, as stated by the university.

Scholarship and Admission Details

According to Surendra Tiwari, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, an entrance examination will also be conducted for scholarship selection. In addition, semester toppers will receive merit-based scholarships.

The admission process for the new programs has already begun. Applications will be accepted until Kartik 26, and the entrance exam is scheduled for Kartik 28.

Future Plans and Academic Expansion

According to Dipanjal Shrestha, Director of the International Relations Center at Pokhara University, the introduction of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science programs aligns with Nepal’s growing demand for advanced digital and technological education.

While undergraduate programs are being launched this year, the university plans to introduce postgraduate programs at the campus from next year onward.
