
Madan Puraskar Guthi Awards Jagadamba Shree and Madan Puraskar
Madan Puraskar Guthi conferred the pre-announced Jagadamba Shree Honor and the Madan Puraskar (Kriti Puraskar) for 2081 B.S. at a ceremony on Sunday. The Jagadamba Shree Honor went to Premdev Giri, a collector and custodian of Nepali folk traditions, and the Madan Puraskar went to Chuden Kawimo for the work “Uramal.”
The event was held at Kamalmani Theater, Patan Dhoka, Patan. Both creators received letters of honor and a prize amount of NPR 400,000 each. At the program, cultural scholar Prof. Dr. Veena Paudyal delivered a scholarly lecture.
Prof. Dr. Paudyal presented her insights under the title “Art, Icons, and Preservation.” She stated that archaeology reveals the human past with evidence, and therefore safeguarding it is everyone’s responsibility.
The author of “Uramal,” Kawimo, said that love and literature have no borders. He stated, “Literature always relates to the deprived, the oppressed, and to human concerns, and I am continually inspired to keep writing to preserve the human within the human.” He is a writer of Indian origin.
Collector and custodian of folk traditions, Giri, shared that he was born in Surkhet, Karnali, began his formal theatrical journey in 2025 B.S., and was engaged in stage work at Rastriya Naach Ghar from 2029 to 2041 B.S. He recounted that from 2043 to 2045 B.S. he provided madal rhythms at Radio Nepal while collecting folk songs and folk tunes from remote villages in the Karnali and Bheri regions.
