TSC Clarifies Training-Equivalent Subjects for Classes 11 and 12

The Government of Nepal, Teacher Service Commission, Sanothimi, Bhaktapur, has published a notice clarifying the subjects considered equivalent to training for candidates wishing to apply for the lower secondary level teaching license and teacher post advertisements.
Under Section 11 Chha of the Education Act, 2028, after the commencement of the Act, no person may become a candidate for a teacher post without obtaining a teaching license from the Commission.
Similarly, Clause (b) of Sub-rule (1) of Rule 9 of the Teacher Service Commission Regulations, 2057, provides that only a person who has passed the proficiency certificate level or an equivalent examination in the relevant subject and has received at least ten months of training in education may become a candidate in advertisements conducted for lower secondary school teachers.
The Commission stated that after the National Curriculum Framework, 2076, made secondary education from Grades 9 to 12 a single-track system, there is no longer a provision to assign a specific “stream” or faculty in Classes 11 and 12 as in the past.
As a result, confusion had arisen among candidates who had passed Class 12 and wished to become candidates for the lower secondary level teaching license and teacher post advertisements regarding which subjects would be considered as “trained.”
Following inquiries from candidates, based on a letter received from the Curriculum Development Centre on 2078/12/15, the Teacher Service Commission decided on 2078/12/19 that candidates who had studied specific subjects would be considered trained.
Subjects Considered Equivalent to Training
The subjects specified by the Commission as equivalent to training are as follows:

Class 11: Child Development and Learning

Class 12: Instructional Pedagogy and Evaluation

Classes 11 and 12: Psychology

Classes 11 and 12: Education and Development
Conditions and Additional Information
According to the Commission’s notice, candidates may be considered trained only if they have studied the above-mentioned subjects in Class 11, Class 12, or both Classes 11 and 12 for 200 full marks or 8 credit hours.
