One-Month Free Training to Support Employment and Self-Reliance

Kathmandu Metropolitan City has continued its one-month free training campaign, launched on Jestha 7, aimed at promoting self-employment and creating job opportunities within the country. This program began last year.

According to the Nepal Training and Employment Business Association, more than 60% of the 2,575 individuals trained last year found employment.

Focused on Linking Skills with Labor and Production

The training program is being conducted with the objective of linking skills with labor and labor with production. It is currently being run in 37 professions across 10 sectors.

Current Training Participation and Employment Status

According to Sudip Dhakal, a member of the Skills Fair Committee under Kathmandu Metropolitan City, 2,547 individuals are currently receiving training, out of the targeted 2,082 for this year.

Out of those undergoing training, employment has already been secured for 1,600 participants.

Emphasis on Results Alongside Training

Dhakal stated that, unlike last year, which focused on introducing the fair, this year’s program emphasizes measurable outcomes. The fair aims to connect the workforce with skills and serves as a bridge between workers and employers.

Trainers and training materials are being managed jointly by the Nepal Training and Employment Business Association and the Metropolitan City.

Direct Link Between Skill and Employment

Chhatra Bahadur Bam, General Secretary of the Association, mentioned that the goal is to connect trained individuals directly with employers. He noted a high attraction towards information technology training.

Participants have already applied the skills learned in short-term training in fields such as garment manufacturing, automobile repair, beauty (beautician), and fashion design.

According to him, those who gain skills will continue with one more month of practical training in the industry, during which they will receive a stipend of NPR 9,000 from the industry and NPR 9,000 from the Metropolitan City, totaling NPR 18,000.

Special Training Opportunities

  • Autism trainer preparation is also underway.

  • Sajina Tamang, trained last year through the Skills Fair, is now teaching nail art.
