Beni Community Secondary School in Myagdi has launched a haircut training program for students.
The training was organized as part of Beni Municipality’s “We Can, We Do” program, aiming to provide students with both academic and vocational skills.
A total of 25 students from grades 8, 9, and 11 were selected based on their interests to participate in a 15-day haircut training program, as confirmed by school principal Dipak Shrestha.
Hands-On Training Based on Student Demand
Principal Shrestha explained that the training was introduced in direct response to student demand and interest. The session began on Jestha 26 and will continue until Asar 10.
Abhishek Shrestha of Beni is conducting the practical training.
Evening Sessions After Regular Classes
The haircut classes are held for two hours daily, beginning at 4:00 PM, after the end of regular school lessons.
One of the participants, Suyog Regmi, an 11th-grade student, stated that the training will help save family expenses and support him if he wishes to start a business in the future.
Skill Use Beyond School
According to Principal Shrestha, public salons in Beni often have long wait times on holidays. If students apply the skills they learn and wish to start a collective business, the school will provide a shared space for them to operate.
He further added that last year, plumbing training was conducted, and the year before that, haircut training had also been offered.
Future Plans for In-House Service Shops
“We are planning to open a school-based service shop within the school building,” he said, “to offer plumbing, haircutting, and electrical wiring services.”
Education Linked to Labor
Beni Municipality Mayor Surat KC shared that this program was designed to connect education with labor by offering hands-on training to secondary-level students.
Municipality Budget and Participation Target
Beni Municipality has allocated NPR 1 lakh each to 16 schools, totaling NPR 1.6 million for the current fiscal year under the ‘We Can, We Do’ initiative.
Training sessions have been scheduled alternately in the morning and evening, accommodating students' academic routines.
It is expected that around 500 students from community schools in Beni Municipality will participate in various skill-based trainings.
