Kathmandu Metropolitan City Education Committee Meeting Decisions 2082

The Kathmandu Metropolitan City Education Committee meeting was held on Wednesday, 2082 Shrawan 28, under the chairmanship of Mayor and Committee Coordinator Balendra Shah.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol, Chief Administrative Officer Saroj Guragain, Education and Health Committee Coordinator Chinikaji Maharjan, executive members, education experts, school representatives, the Parents’ Association, and institutional school representatives.

Key Discussions and Decisions

School Upgrades and Subject Additions

  • Approval for Ranidevi Secondary School, Kathmandu–3, Ranibari to operate Grade 10 from academic session 2082.

  • Approval for Pashupati Mitra, Geetamata, Janakalyan, Janpath, and Nepal Adarsha Secondary Schools to add Civil and Computer Engineering subjects in Grade 12 technical stream.

  • Discussion on granting subject and grade additions to 12 institutional schools.

School Name Changes

  • Approval granted to 21 schools that submitted documents for name changes.

  • Decisions on some schools deferred as the mandatory 35-day notice period had not yet expired.

School Closures and Transfers

  • Education Department to conduct field inspections and submit reports on institutional schools registered but not in operation, for cancellation of their licenses.

  • Approval for relocation of alternative schools—Mahila Jyoti, Jayna, and James Namuna.

  • Decision to start the process of canceling licenses of institutional schools that exist only on paper and are not operational in the field.

  • Responsibility given to the Education and Health Committee to prepare standards for the transfer of institutional schools and present them in the next Education Committee meeting.

Education Budget and Program Review

  • Decision for the Education and Health Committee to submit a report within 15 days on the relevance, utility, and possible revision of the Education Sector Budget for FY 2082/083 and the "Book Free Friday" program.

Educational Reforms and Working Group Formation

  • Formation of a working group led by Dr. Surjaraj Kafle to prepare recommendations for educational reforms in community schools.

  • The working group will submit a report with suggestions on school operation standards, social and resource mapping, physical infrastructure, educational quality, and long-term education planning.

  • The Education Department will study and act on the registration of Early Childhood Development records and statutes.
