Kathmandu University Suspends Classes Until Chhath
Kathmandu University (KU) has suspended all its academic programs and daily classes. In a notice issued on Thursday, the university stated that all educational activities will resume only after the Chhath festival due to the recent political developments.
According to KU Spokesperson Prof. Uddhav Pyakurel, the decision was made because the movement of students, teachers, and staff has become difficult under the current situation.
He said, “With prohibitory orders and curfew still in place, there is uncertainty. Classes will resume only after the situation becomes normal. If possible and agreeable to students, we may explore resuming programs during Dashain or Tihar holidays, which will be discussed later.”
Examination and Academic Calendar Updates
Prof. Pyakurel clarified that previously published examination schedules will only be re-announced after classes resume.
Regarding ongoing school-level exams run under KU, the deans and examination controllers of the concerned schools will coordinate and decide on the new arrangements. He added that all examinations are currently postponed and efforts will be made to conduct them during the period between Dashain and Tihar if conditions allow.
To ensure the completion of academic courses, KU plans to extend daily class hours once teaching resumes so that the academic calendar remains on track.
Hostel and Transportation Arrangements
The university has arranged transportation for hostel students who need to travel to Kathmandu on Friday and Saturday. Students who wish to travel outside the valley have been asked to contact the Student Welfare Directorate for assistance.
Admissions, Scholarships, and Notices
KU has stated that any admission, scholarship, or vacancy notices with a deadline will be re-published after office operations resume, giving a one-week period for submissions.
