Madan Bhandari Academy of Health Sciences: 50 MBBS Seats Approved
The Medical Education Commission (MEC) has officially granted Madan Bhandari Academy of Health Sciences (MBAHS) approval to run the MBBS program with 50 seats starting from this academic session.
The decision was made during the 21st board meeting of the Commission. According to Registrar Bhim Sagar Guragain, the institution has already begun preparations to start classes from the upcoming Magh.
This approval is expected to enhance the reputation of Hetauda not only in the province but also across the country’s health and education sector.
Expansion of Undergraduate Programs
MBAHS had already been running various undergraduate programs. This year:

BSc Nursing: Seats increased from 20 to 30 for more effective operation.

Medical Laboratory Technology (BMLT): 20 seats remain unchanged.

Bachelor of Public Health (BPH): 20 seats remain unchanged.

Bachelor of Pharmacy: Continues with 30 seats as per the existing structure.
Launch of Postgraduate Programs
Along with undergraduate programs, the institution has made a new achievement in postgraduate studies. From this academic session, postgraduate (MD) programs in seven specialties have been introduced with a total of eight approved seats:

Obstetrics and Gynecology: 2 seats

Physician: 1 seat

General Surgery: 1 seat

Pediatrics: 1 seat

Orthopedics and Neurology: 1 seat

Family Physician: 1 seat

Anesthesiology: 1 seat
Former Chief Minister Dormani Poudel stated that this development will provide opportunities for medical education within the province and attract students from across the country. He added, “The institution I initiated during my tenure as Chief Minister will soon start producing skilled human resources who will contribute to healthcare services.”
Bagmati Province Health Minister Kiran Thapa remarked that the increase in approved seats and the addition of new programs will help establish MBAHS as a center for health education and research in the province. He further noted that the institution has been contributing to expanding health education, producing specialized doctors, delivering quality healthcare, and promoting modern research.
Vice-Chancellor Dr. Pradeep Gyawali informed that Hetauda Hospital, operated under the academy, has also been serving patients from neighboring provinces. Currently, more than 1,500 people receive treatment daily at the hospital.
