Saraswati Multiple Campus, located in Sorhakhutte, Kathmandu, has stated that its student numbers have remained satisfactory.
Amid a situation where many public campuses are facing declining enrollments, Campus Chief Dr Thakur Prasad Wagle informed that Saraswati Campus has been able to maintain a stable level of student attraction.
Campus Plans and Academic Programs
Dr Wagle mentioned that he is fully informed about the campus’s problems and the measures needed to solve them. He expressed his commitment to fully implement the action plan that has been submitted to the university.
He stated that there are currently 14 academic programs running at the campus and that the student number has reached about nine thousand.
Appointed as campus chief one month ago, he said that preparations are underway to introduce new academic programs, including BA LLB and MP evening classes.
Under the Faculty of Humanities, subjects such as Journalism and Sociology are particularly popular. On the Management side, the BBA, BBM, and BHM programs are especially popular among students at the campus.
Dr Wagle also stated that a frugality campaign has begun by reducing tea expenses in the office.
Commitment to Fairness, Discipline, and Transparency
Speaking at the general assembly of the campus held there, he said that he himself had been affected by prejudices in the past. He assured that no one would now be subjected to injustice or prejudice.
He stated that he would move ahead firmly with the following priorities:

Reducing unnecessary activities of student organizations

Ensuring financial transparency

Making all decisions on the basis of due process, judgement, and values and norms
He also informed that programs will be introduced to encourage teachers and students in study and research.
Suggestions from University Representatives and Professors
In the program, Tribhuvan University Senator Kalpana Luitel suggested that a citizen charter should be displayed at the campus. She also advised that the demands of professors and students should be addressed.
Professor Lekhnath Dhakal emphasized that improvements are not possible through the campus chief alone. He stressed that all stakeholders should join hands and support the development of the campus.
Prof. Dr Sanjay Acharya remarked that, for the first time in the campus’s history, an open general assembly with participation from all sides had been held, and he described this as commendable.
Head of the English Department, Rajendra Chapagai, said that for the campus to be successful, the campus chief must be capable, and everyone should cooperate with the leadership.

Representatives of various teachers’ organizations put forward several suggestions, including on remuneration, information services, and discipline.

Assistant Campus Chief Jamuna Shrestha stated that broad improvements at the campus are possible with the cooperation of all concerned.
Another Assistant Campus Chief, Narayan Prasad Aryal, expressed the commitment of the campus leadership to internalize and implement the suggestions that were presented.
