Judicial Awareness Program Held in Sunkoshi Schools

Judicial Awareness Program Conducted in Sunkoshi Schools

A judicial awareness program has been conducted in secondary schools under the Sunkoshi Rural Municipality of Okhaldhunga district.

Out of the 13 secondary schools in the municipality, the program has been implemented in eight schools so far.

The sessions provided students with information on legal literacy, child rights, prevention of gender-based violence, responsibilities of children, and the structure of the justice system.

Sunita Adhikari, Vice-Chairperson of the rural municipality and Coordinator of the Judicial Committee, stated that the program aimed to raise legal awareness among children and the broader community.

Target Group: Grades 8 to 10 Students and Teachers

Vice-Chairperson Adhikari explained that the initiative was conducted to extend both legal and judicial awareness within schools and communities, with the goal of reducing injustice and unlawful activities.

The program targeted students from grades 8 to 10, along with their teachers.

Remaining Schools to Be Covered Soon

Adhikari also informed that similar programs will be held in the remaining schools in the coming days.

Teachers and guardians participating in the sessions expressed confidence that such programs help enhance students’ legal understanding.

Topics Included in the Sessions

Specifically targeting teenagers, the program included:

  • Concept of child-friendly schools

  • Protection of child rights

  • Understanding legal procedures as a student

Children Taking Initiative Against Unlawful Practices

Children have shown readiness to take the lead in preventing unlawful practices in their communities, including child marriage.

Advocate Tek Nath Sapkota and journalist S.B. Zero visited the schools and delivered training sessions.

Awareness Programs to Expand in the Future

Sunkoshi Rural Municipality has announced plans to expand such awareness programs to other wards and community levels in the future.
