SACS Submits Memorandum to TU Dean for CSIT Issues

A memorandum has been submitted to address the challenges faced by CSIT students nationwide. The Student Association of Computer Science (SACS) handed over the document to Shankar Prasad Khanal, Dean of the Institute of Science and Technology at Tribhuvan University.

Violation of Appointment Policy for Coordinators

The memorandum states that the provision requiring the appointment of full-time faculty members as program coordinators in colleges and campuses running the BSc CSIT program has been violated.

SACS has demanded that this policy be implemented exactly as written without deviation.

Enforcing MSc.CSIT Requirement for Key Roles

According to the BSc.CSIT Operating Guidelines require institutions to appoint an MSc.CSIT graduate faculty and qualified program coordinators within five years.

SACS further demands that the minimum qualification for the BSc.CSIT Program Coordinator position be strictly defined as MSc.CSIT only.

Details from the Submitted Memorandum

Recipient:
Office of the Dean, Institute of Science and Technology, Tribhuvan University, Kirtipur

Submitting Organization:
The Student Association of Computer Science (SACS), a student body operating under the Central Department of Computer Science and Information Technology (MSc.CSIT), is dedicated to the academic, technical, and professional interests of CSIT students.

The organization has continuously advocated for academic rights, quality education, essential infrastructure, skilled professionals, and access to professional opportunities for students.

Addressing ongoing issues in the BSc.CSIT program and the challenges faced by MSc students.CSIT graduates, SACS requests immediate action on the following points:

Demands:

  1. Immediate implementation of the provision requiring institutions to appoint MSc.CSIT graduate teachers and qualified coordinators within five years, as outlined in the BSc.CSIT Operating Procedure.

  2. Establish MSc.CSIT as the minimum qualification for appointment to the BSc.CSIT Program Coordinator position.

  3. For the Assistant Professor (Open) position in Computer Science (Ad No. 1185/081–082), MSc.CSIT must be the minimum qualification. In the case of equivalent qualifications, the equivalency of MSc.CSIT and MSc.CS must be clearly stated.

  4. For the Assistant Professor (Open) position in Information Technology (Ad No. 1202/081–082), the minimum qualification required is either an MIT or an MSc degree.CSIT. If equivalency is mentioned with the phrase "or equivalent," a clear definition of MIT or MSc.CSIT equivalency must be included.

Since these demands are directly linked to the academic future and opportunities of MSc.CSIT students, SACS strongly urges the relevant authorities to implement these measures without delay.
