The Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Nursing at NAMS College Kathmandu is a four-year bachelor-level nursing program affiliated with Purbanchal University.

Course Facts

The revised Purbanchal University BSN structure carries 141 theory credit hours and 122 practical credit hours across the four years.

Eligibility and Admission

Eligibility: Applicants need an intermediate science, 10+2, or A-level academic background with Biology and an equivalent C+ grade or 50% aggregate. The university curriculum also sets a minimum age of 17 years and requires candidates to be physically and mentally fit.

Admission to BSc Nursing follows the prevailing national medical education admission system. Candidates must take MECEE-BL and complete the admission process according to the rules, guidelines, code of conduct, scholarship provisions, seat allocation system, fee structure, and admission procedures issued by the Medical Education Commission.

Seats are determined for the relevant academic intake by MEC and may change from one year to another. Fees, scholarship provisions, examination guidelines, and admission arrangements may also be revised through MEC decisions and its academic calendar.

BSc Nursing Curriculum

The program moves from basic sciences and nursing foundations in the first year to clinical nursing, midwifery, community health, research, education, and management in later years.

Fourth-year Medical-Surgical Nursing-III covers cardiopulmonary, oncology, nephrology, and neurology areas. The later stages of the program also place substantial time on practical nursing, research, education, and management activities.

Teaching and Practical Learning

The teaching approach includes lectures, discussions, demonstrations, self-directed study, problem-based learning, observation, skill-lab simulation, field and clinical practice, assignments, project work, and presentations.

Clinical and practical education is incorporated throughout the course. Students work with nursing procedures, patient-care planning, case studies, clinical presentations, community health activities, client teaching, documentation, and other practical tasks connected with individual subjects.

At NAMS College, the academic environment also includes laboratories, multimedia-supported classrooms, a library and e-library, counseling and guidance, and a Center for Teaching, Learning, and Evaluation.

Examination and Evaluation

Theory subjects use both internal and final assessment:

• Internal assessment: 20% of total theory marks

• Final assessment: 80% of total theory marks

Practical assessment is divided equally between internal and final evaluation:

• Internal practical evaluation: 50%

• Final practical evaluation: 50%

Practical assessment methods may include project work, performance evaluation, case study and presentation, client teaching, student teaching, report writing, procedure logbooks, nursing care plans, procedure evaluation, OSPE/OSCE or simulation, and viva examinations.

Skills Developed Through the Program

The BSc Nursing curriculum develops nursing knowledge and practical abilities across patient care, primary health care, community health, reproductive health, midwifery, research, communication, education, and management.

Students also work with the nursing process, clinical decision-making, health education, epidemiological concepts, community participation, leadership, resource management, and basic nursing research.

Career Areas

Nepal Nursing Council Licensing

Completing the four-year BSc Nursing degree does not by itself complete the professional entry process. Graduates must pass the applicable licensing examination of the Nepal Nursing Council before entering the nursing profession.

Academic completion and professional licensing are therefore separate requirements: students first complete the university program and then meet the professional council requirements applicable to nursing practice.
