Amrit Science Campus Students Demand More IT Seats

The Free Student Union (FSU) of Amrit Science Campus (ASCOL) has demanded an increase in seats for IT programs. A memorandum was submitted on Monday to the Dean of the Institute of Science and Technology under Tribhuvan University, requesting seat expansion in BSc CSIT and BIT programs.

Thousands Seek Admission, Limited Seats Available

According to FSU President Rudrahari Pokhrel, thousands of students apply to study IT at ASCOL every year. However, due to limited seats, many are forced to pay high fees at private institutions.

The union has formally requested Dean Prof. Dr. Shankar Prasad Khanal to approve the addition of 36 seats each in BSc CSIT and BIT, effective from the current academic session.

Public Campus, Public Aspiration

President Pokhrel emphasized that programs like BSc CSIT and BIT are aspirational for students from the general public, who dream of studying such courses in constituent campuses of Tribhuvan University.

Currently, CSIT is offered to 144 students and BIT to 36 students at ASCOL.

Focus on Managing Existing Universities

He added that rather than approving the establishment of new universities, the government should focus on managing and strengthening existing ones, which would be more effective for improving education quality.
