GPA-Based Admission Replaces Entrance Exams at CTEVT
The Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) has decided to admit students based on the GPA they received in the Secondary Education Examination (SEE), replacing the previous system that required entrance exams.
According to CTEVT Examination Controller Umesh Mishra, this change takes effect from the current academic session. He explained that students applying for any subject under CTEVT no longer need to appear for entrance tests.
Why the Entrance Exam Was Removed
Mishra stated that entrance exams had led to several issues, including the spread of misleading information and complaints about preparatory centers charging fees with false promises. He added that the decision to use GPA aims to make the process more transparent and reduce such challenges.
New Admission Guidelines Issued for 2082
Implementation of GPA-Based Selection Criteria
CTEVT has implemented the “Trainee Selection, Scholarship Distribution, and Admission Guidelines 2082.” These guidelines apply to Pre-Diploma, Diploma, and Certificate-level programs.
Key Provisions from the Guidelines
-
Admission will be determined based on a merit list formed from the SEE GPA.
-
An additional GPA weight is given based on the type of school:
-
Students from government or community schools receive an additional 1.00 point.
-
Students from institutional (private) schools receive an additional 0.85 point.
-
Online Admission System and Institutional Facilitation
CTEVT has introduced an online system for students to submit their admission forms. Constituent and affiliated private campuses are required to assist applicants in the submission process.
Demand from Private Institutions Fulfilled
Private colleges had previously requested GPA-based admission criteria, which aligns with the newly implemented system.
Nationwide Reach and Annual Enrollment
Currently, more than 400 colleges—including 63 constituent, affiliated, and private institutions—are operating under CTEVT across the country.
Enrollment Volume Across Institutions
Examination Controller Mishra stated that over 25,000 new students are admitted each year to CTEVT-affiliated institutions nationwide.
