Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) has started providing training with the aim of enhancing the capacity of teachers.

To support the use of modern technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) in teaching and learning, and to help provide quality education to students, the Information Access Centre under the Science and Technology Information System Centre of NAST has begun this training programme.

So far, NAST has trained 23 science teachers from community schools of Chandragiri Municipality in Kathmandu and 19 science teachers from Tokha Municipality, according to Pradip Dhodari, Coordinator of the Information System Centre.

According to him, this is a full-day training. Until now, it has been run on a trial basis. In this training, teachers learn how to use AI tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini and DeepSeek to prepare educational materials, develop project reports and design model question papers. He stated that this process also helps teachers become more familiar with recent technological developments.

“The training is focused on how to use different AI tools in modern school education, how to make our classroom learning more effective with the development of information technology, and how to make this learning more useful in real life,” he said.

He added that this training will gradually be expanded to other municipalities. In the coming days, a standard training format will be developed and, as far as possible, extended across the country.

For now, the resource persons in this training are Sunil Gharti, Rahul Mahatha and Anup Paudyal, who are authors of secondary-level computer science textbooks.
