Medical Education Commission Finalizes CTEVT Seat Allocation

The 20th meeting of the Medical Education Commission held today has finalized the seat allocations for certificate-level programs under the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) related to medical education.

The meeting was chaired by the Prime Minister and Chairperson of the Commission, KP Sharma Oli, and took place on Wednesday at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar. The seat allocation decision was based on the monitoring and evaluation report presented during the meeting.

285 Institutions Receive Seat Allocations

As of now, a total of 285 educational institutions have been allocated seats. These include constituent, non-profit (institutions/partnerships), and private institutions.

The meeting also discussed legal facilitation to allow medical colleges to run the PCL Nursing program.

Proposal to Finalize Tuition Fee Standards

A draft of the standards for determining tuition fees for undergraduate and postgraduate medical education programs was tabled. This draft was developed by the task force formed to recommend tuition fees for the upcoming academic session.

Task Force Report Submitted to Prime Minister

The report prepared by the task force was submitted to Prime Minister Oli. After reviewing the report, he handed it over to the Commission’s Vice-Chairperson, Prof. Dr. Anjani Kumar Jha, with instructions to bring forward an implementation proposal.

Approval of Internal Budget and Programs

The meeting approved the Commission’s programs and budget for the upcoming fiscal year under internal resources.

Addressing the meeting, Prime Minister Oli directed that preparations be made to amend the Medical Education Act, 2057 in a timely manner. He also emphasized that the Commission should focus on its core responsibilities and operate more effectively.

Emphasis on Quality and Expansion of Education

He stated that instead of unplanned expansion, emphasis should be placed on maintaining quality in the education sector while facilitating and expanding it where needed.
