Nepal–India Friendship Center Distributes Bicycles in Rupandehi
The Nepal–India Friendship Center Central Committee, Rupandehi, distributed bicycles to 101 girl students who passed the SEE exam from Lumbini Cultural Municipality. The bicycles were handed over on Saturday in Lumbini on the occasion of India’s Independence Day.
Friendship Center Chairperson Siddharth Agrawal informed that the bicycles were provided to encourage girl students.
He said, “We gifted bicycles to students of government schools so that they feel motivated and find it easier to reach their schools for higher education.”
Agrawal added that the Center will continue such social activities in the coming days. According to the municipality, 194 girls passed the SEE exam in 2081 B.S., out of which 101 were identified as needing support and were provided with bicycles.
Speaking at the program, former State Minister of Finance and Nepali Congress Central Member Bharat Kumar Shah said that the distribution of bicycles has energized students of government schools. He added that such initiatives have also strengthened Nepal–India friendship.
Shah urged students not to feel discouraged by their background, caste, or the type of school they attend.
He said, “In this world, those who work hard move ahead. A person becomes great not by caste or religion but by education, honesty, and effort. So, focus on your studies.”
He also stressed that, along with bicycles, scholarship programs should be implemented to help children in rural areas progress.
Mayor of Sainamaina Municipality, Fanendra Prasad Sharma, remarked that the bicycles provided by the Friendship Center have encouraged girls to continue their studies. He added that although small in value, this gift plays a role in strengthening Nepal–India relations. He further urged donors to direct their support to areas of need rather than only where facilities already exist.
Deputy Mayor of Siddharthanagar Municipality, Uma Adhikari, stated that it is the responsibility of parents not to limit their daughters but to pave the way for them. She emphasized that education is the most powerful tool for girls to achieve their goals and urged parents to understand their daughters’ aspirations and invest in their education. She noted that the encouragement from the Center has boosted the confidence of the students.
Chief Administrative Officer of Lumbini Cultural Municipality, Tara Gyawali, thanked the Center for distributing bicycles to students who passed with good results. She added that the municipality has also been organizing rewards and incentive programs for outstanding students and called on the Center to collaborate in the future. She highlighted that higher education is essential for success in life and said that the bicycle distribution program would serve as inspiration.
