Pokhara University to Start Mechanical Engineering Undergraduate Program
Pokhara University will introduce an undergraduate program in Mechanical Engineering starting this academic year. The university has developed the curriculum and opened admissions for the first time, according to Associate Professor Buddhi Raj Joshi, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology.
Purpose and Vision
The program aligns with the university’s plan to expand teaching in modern, technology-oriented subjects to meet current needs. According to Admission Committee Coordinator Associate Professor Suresh Baral, the aim is to provide Nepali students with access to high-quality Mechanical Engineering education within the country.
Addressing the Gap
Although the university already offered all major engineering branches, Mechanical Engineering was previously unavailable. With growing demand for mechanical engineers in hydropower, energy, design, automation, manufacturing, and industrial sectors in Nepal, the university initiated this program to address the gap.
Curriculum Highlights
The curriculum covers both traditional subjects and modern technology fields, including:
-
Automation and Robotics
-
Industry 4.0
-
Machine Learning
Students will benefit from project-based learning, practical workshops, and direct engagement with national and local industries to develop hands-on skills. The program aims not only to educate but also to produce skilled professionals who can contribute to Nepal’s infrastructure and technological growth.
