Schools Resume in Birgunj After Cholera Scare and Gen Z Movement
Schools under Birgunj Metropolitan City have resumed operations from Sunday with necessary precautions after the cholera outbreak and the impact of the Gen Z movement. The metropolitan office had directed school administrations to reopen from Sunday, leading to the resumption of classes.
Due to the Jitiya festival falling on Sunday, many women teachers observing the fast could not attend school, resulting in very low student attendance in community schools on the first day. However, school offices and administrations remained open throughout the day. Some institutional schools were found to have conducted partial classes from the very first day.
Health and Safety Measures
Most schools in Birgunj followed the metropolitan directive to check drinking water conditions before reopening. Schools with water tanks cleaned them, chlorinated the water, ensured proper cleaning of toilets, and thoroughly cleaned areas around taps.
Since the risk of cholera still exists in Birgunj, the metropolitan office instructed all schools to maintain cleanliness and proper management of water sources and drainage systems.
Schools were also advised to immediately inform the Education Administration Division if any health or safety risks are observed to prevent potential hazards.
Low Attendance Expected on Monday
Due to some people observing Jitiya on Sunday and others on Monday, schools expect low student attendance on Monday as well.
