Wetlands Day Program Held in Rupandehi Schools

Lumbini World Peace Forum Holds World Wetlands Day Program

On the occasion of World Wetlands Day, the Lumbini World Peace Forum conducted a scholarship distribution, tree plantation, and awareness program. The Forum distributed scholarships to 10 students of Lumbini Basic School located in Lumbini Sanskritik Municipality–10, Rupandehi.

Forum Founder and President Basu Gautam said that NPR 5,000 per student was provided as scholarship support, and NPR 10,000 was provided to the school, making a total of NPR 60,000.

He also said that more than 25 saplings were planted in the school premises on Monday, and a total of 250 saplings were planted including other locations. Gautam added that endowment funds have been established in various schools across Lumbini Province, and that similar support will be provided to schools in the Lumbini area every year on Wetlands Day and other occasions.

Messages on Water and Wetland Conservation

Chief Sagar Dhamma of Rajakiya Bauddha Vihar, Lumbini, emphasized the need to protect water sources, stating that water is essential for sustaining life. He urged people not to waste water and said wetlands have significant importance. He also said it is commendable that a program was organized at the school on the occasion of Wetlands Day.

Amitkumar Gupta, Chair of the Management Committee of Bhairahawa Model Secondary School and a life member of the Lumbini World Peace Forum, said such programs should be continued in the future as well.

Leelamani Sharma, President of the Hotel Association Nepal, Lumbini, said conservation of lakes, ponds, and water sources is necessary.

Sun Life Insurance Company Limited Chief Executive Officer Rajkumar Aryal said the program delivered the message that the environment must be protected and wetlands must be conserved. He emphasized that tree plantation is necessary for environmental protection and said the organization will continue to collaborate with the Lumbini World Peace Forum in the coming days.

Honors and Recognition

The Lumbini World Peace Forum honored journalist Rabindra Pratap Gupta. The Forum stated that Gupta was honored with a cash award of NPR 10,005 and a certificate of appreciation in recognition of his contribution to environmental awareness through journalism.

The Forum also stated that musician Mahesh Gnyawali and visual artist Narbahadur Bishwakarma were honored.
