The Master in Technical and Vocational Education and Training is part of the academic portfolio of KUSOED’s Department of Development Education. The department was established in October 2018 after the former Department of Educational Leadership and Development Studies was divided into separate academic units. Its current programs include Sustainable Development, Technical and Vocational Education and Training, Indigenous Education and Development, and research degrees in development-related fields.
MTVET approaches technical and vocational education from both educational and organizational perspectives. The curriculum does not concentrate only on classroom instruction. It also includes curriculum development, assessment, governance, financing, mentoring, administration, leadership, research methods, sociology of work, psychology of learning, and entrepreneurship.

KUSOED also offers the one-year Post-Graduate Diploma in Education – Technical and Vocational Instruction (PGDE-TVI).
Completion of PGDE-TVI provides a pathway for direct entry into Year 2 of the Master in Technical and Vocational Education and Training. The PGDE-TVI curriculum includes several courses that also appear in the MTVET program, including Instructional System Design, Learning Assessment and Evaluation in TVET, Curriculum Development in TVET, Educational Technology for TVET, Social and Sustainable Skills for TVET, Occupational Instruction Skills, and Principles and Theories of Education and Work.
The PGDE-TVI and the full two-year MTVET remain separate academic qualifications and entry routes.
