Bicycles Distributed to Underprivileged Girls in Bardiya

To encourage school attendance among girls studying in the Bardiya district, bicycles were distributed to students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds in Rajapur Municipality.

Support for Girls Facing Financial Challenges

The distribution aimed to ensure that girls are not deprived of education due to financial difficulties. A total of 14 girls received bicycles: five from Nepal Rastriya Secondary School in Ward No. 9, Godiyana, and nine from Bheri Secondary School in Ward No. 8 of Rajapur Municipality.

The bicycles were distributed specifically to support girls from low-income households and to promote their participation in education.

Distribution Brings Joy and Accessibility

After the distribution of bicycles to 31 students from schools in Rajapur and Madhuwan municipalities, students who previously struggled with travel were relieved and happy.

Rittika Tharu, a student in Grade 8 at Bheri Secondary School, expressed gratitude to the Banke UNESCO Club for making it easier for her to attend school by providing a bicycle during a time when traveling from home to school was difficult.

Principal Emphasizes Continuation of Education

Shiv Kumar Koirala, Principal of Bheri Secondary School in Lalitpur, stated that bicycles were distributed to help prevent students from dropping out due to economic constraints and to ensure the continuity of their education.

Selection Based on Specific Criteria

According to Deputy Mayor Mankala Kumari Chaudhary of Rajapur Municipality, bicycles were distributed with the support of the Banke UNESCO Club, following an evaluation of several criteria, including the distance between home and school, the student’s health condition, and personal safety.

Wider Distribution Through Collaborative Support

As informed by Ishwar B.K., Program Coordinator of the Banke UNESCO Club’s Protection Project, a total of 31 girls—14 from two schools in Rajapur and 17 from Madhuwan Municipality—received bicycles with the support of Plan International. The initiative aimed to make commuting to school more accessible.

Ongoing Efforts to Reduce Child Marriage and Support Girls

The Banke UNESCO Club, which has been actively working to reduce child marriage, continues to operate various programs under the Empowered Girls Project to support the education of girl students.
