SEE Answer Sheet Checking Accelerated After Delay from Teacher Protest

The National Examination Board (NEB) has accelerated the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) answer sheet checking process, following disruptions caused by a month-long teacher protest. To make up for the lost time, the board has initiated high-speed evaluations across the country.

50 Centers Active Nationwide for Answer Sheet Checking

Currently, answer sheets are being checked in 50 centers nationwide. Among them, Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Lalitpur each have one evaluation center. This year, a total of 514,000 answer sheets need to be evaluated. Given the time pressure, the number of teachers involved in checking has been increased.

Over 15,000 Teachers Mobilized Daily

In previous years, around 10,000 teachers were involved daily in the checking process. This year, the number has been raised to at least 15,000 per day. According to Dr. Ganesh Bhattarai, the Controller of the Class 10 Examination Board, more teachers have also received orientation this time to support the task effectively.

Each teacher checks around 100 answer sheets daily. Some districts have even started night shifts to stay on track. For example, in Bhaktapur, checking begins as early as 4 AM and continues until the school opens. It resumes again in the evening and runs until 11 PM.

Adjusted Timing to Accommodate Teaching Schedules

Dr. Bhattarai explained that because teachers must attend their regular classes during the day, the board has made arrangements to conduct checks in the early morning and evening hours.

He added that had the strike not taken place, the checking process would have already been completed by now.

Teachers Working During School Hours

Dr. Bhattarai noted that under normal conditions, checking is scheduled during the academic break. However, since schools are currently in session, teachers must now take on additional responsibilities beyond their regular teaching hours.

Daily Updates from Centers Nationwide

The board is collecting daily updates from almost all active centers to track progress. Most districts are checking answer sheets through their Education Development and Coordination Units.

According to Dr. Bhattarai, around 30% of the total answer sheets have been checked so far. Some districts have completed up to 60% of their share.

Month-Long Delay Due to Protests

The delay began due to a month-long protest organized by the Nepal Teachers’ Federation. The protest lasted from Chaitra 20 to Baisakh 17. After an agreement was reached between the teachers and the government on Baisakh 17 (Wednesday), checking resumed in some centers on Friday and in others from Saturday onward.

Original Timeline Pushed Back

Initially, the board had planned to publish the SEE results within three months of the examination. Had checking begun as scheduled, results would have been released around Asar 7.

Additional Month Required Post-Evaluation

Once checking is completed, the board estimates that publishing the results will take another month. However, the task could face delays due to a shortage of skilled personnel, particularly in technical roles, which continues to affect the final stages of the result processing.
