Plan to Develop Koshi Civil Servants' School as Model

Stakeholders have emphasized that the only civil servants' residential school in Koshi Province, located in Dhankuta, should be developed as a model institution for the province.

This was discussed during a preliminary report and consultation program organized by the Education Development Directorate of Koshi Province in coordination with Tribhuvan University’s Center for Educational Research and Development (CERID), Kathmandu.

The event focused on preparing a roadmap and detailed project report (DPR) to improve the school’s academic quality.

Key Focus Areas for Improvement

During the discussion, emphasis was placed on transforming the school into a model institution by addressing several core areas:

  • Improvement of physical infrastructure

  • Expansion of hostel and student facilities

  • Technology-integrated teaching

  • Development of skilled human resources

  • Creation of a child-friendly environment

  • Increased community participation

Participants also stressed the need to attract students from across Nepal by upgrading both physical and academic aspects of the school.

Importance of Extracurricular Activities

Participants noted that students are increasingly interested in extracurricular activities alongside academics.

They emphasized the need to adjust the school environment accordingly.

A suggestion was also made to survey the current status and progress of students who have left the school.

Parents demanded that the children of civil servants teaching at the school should study there instead of in private boarding schools.

Province Government’s Commitment

Chief guest Niranjan Tamang, Chairperson of the District Coordination Committee, stated that the provincial government aims to declare the school as a model institution.

He highlighted the importance of following the original purpose behind the school’s establishment and assured that elected representatives will support its advancement.

Tamang also stated that the school has the right environment, climate, and other essential conditions to attract students from all districts of the province.

Preliminary Report Presented by TU Professors

A detailed preliminary report on the school’s educational status, physical facilities, human resources, student learning outcomes, inclusivity, accessibility, and management was presented by Prof. Dr. Binod Luitel and Prof. Dr. Kamal Kumar Paudel from Tribhuvan University.

The report assessed the current situation of the school and identified areas requiring improvement.

It also outlined a long-term master plan, estimated budget, implementation strategies, a prioritized list of projects, and the required support mechanisms.

Wide Participation and Next Steps

The program was attended by local government representatives, members of the school management committee, teachers, parents, students, education experts, and other stakeholders.

Participants offered valuable feedback and suggestions regarding the proposals included in the report.

Dhankuta Chief District Officer Tubaraj Pokharel concluded by stating that the final report will be refined based on the suggestions and will guide the implementation phase.
