Vacant posts under the General Police Group in Nepal Police will be filled through open competition in line with inclusive provisions. Online applications are invited from Nepali citizens who meet the qualifications mentioned below.

4. Application Fees

Inspector of Police

When submitting the application online, an application fee of Rs. 1,200 (one thousand two hundred rupees) must be paid.

For candidates applying in more than one group, an additional 20 percent (Rs. 240) fee will be charged for each additional group.

Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) of Police

When submitting the application online, an application fee of Rs. 500 (five hundred rupees) must be paid.

For candidates applying in more than one group, an additional 20 percent (Rs. 100) fee will be charged for each additional group.

5. Age Limits

Inspector of Police

Age Limit:

(a) By the last date of application registration, candidates must have completed 20 years of age and must not have exceeded 25 years.

However, in the case of non-gazetted police personnel participating in the open competition, the age limit is up to 35 years, and such personnel must have completed basic training as a Police Constable or Police Officer.

(b) In the case of technical police personnel, those appointed under the Technical Police Regulations, 2058 prior to the commencement of the Police Regulations, 2071 (with amendments), or those appointed to the Technical Police Group under the Police Regulations, 2071 (with amendments), may compete openly for the Inspector of Police post under the General Police Group if they have entered service within the age limit prescribed for the Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) of Police post in the General Police Group.

(c) For serving non-ranked police personnel, the age limit must not exceed 25 years as per Rule 40 of the Police Regulations, 2071 (with amendments).

Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) of Police

Age Limit:

(a) By the last date of application registration, candidates must have completed 18 years of age and must not have exceeded 24 years.

However, in the case of non-gazetted police personnel participating in the open competition, the age limit is up to 35 years, and such personnel must have completed basic training as a Police Constable.

(b) For serving non-ranked police personnel, the age limit must not exceed 25 years as per Rule 40 of the Police Regulations, 2071 (with amendments).

6. Required Minimum Qualifications

Inspector of Police

Required Minimum Qualifications:

(a) Educational Qualification: Must have passed at least a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a recognized university.

(b) Must not have been punished for any criminal offence involving moral turpitude.

(c) Must not have been punished for violation of human rights and humanitarian law.

(d) Must not be a member of a political party.

(e) Must not be a member of a terrorist organization.

(f) Height, Chest and Weight:

  • Male: Minimum height 5 feet 2 inches; chest 31–33 inches; weight 50 kg.

  • Female: Minimum height 5 feet; minimum weight 42 kg.

(g) Eyesight must not be weaker than minus 2 or plus 2 diopters.

(h) Must have obtained a medical fitness certificate from a doctor approved by the Nepal Police Headquarters (to be done during the examination process).

(i) Must be a Nepali citizen.

Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) of Police

Required Minimum Qualifications:

(a) Educational Qualification: Must have passed Certificate Level (Intermediate) or equivalent from a recognized university or educational institution.

(b) Must meet the qualifications from points (b) to (i) prescribed for the Inspector of Police post.

7. Documents to Be Enclosed with the Application

(a) Nepali Citizenship Certificate.

(b) Recent photograph clearly showing the full face (including both ears) as per ORMS requirements in terms of regulation and size (in the case of male candidates, beard shaved and hair cut).

(c) Educational qualification certificates:

  • Character certificate for each level,

  • Permanent or provisional certificate,

  • Transcript/mark sheet for each level, and

  • In the case of study outside Nepal, an equivalence certificate from the Higher Secondary Education Board/Tribhuvan University (Equivalent Certificate).

(d) For Martyr/Disabled Police Family:

  • Documents confirming the status as martyr/disabled police family, and

  • Relationship verification documents.

(e) For Indigenous/Nationalities:

  • For castes listed under the Nepal Adivasi/Janajati Upliftment National Foundation Act, documents based on that list.

  • If there are more than one surnames within the listed caste, a document certified as belonging to that surname within the listed caste from the Chief District Officer based on the recommendation of the head of the concerned local level/body.

(f) For Madhesi:

  • Certificate from an institution prescribed by the Government of Nepal through notice in the Nepal Gazette certifying the person as Madhesi.

  • Until such an institution is designated through notice in the Nepal Gazette, a certificate from the Chief District Officer certifying the person as Madhesi, based on the recommendation of the head of the concerned local body.

(g) For Dalit:

  • For castes listed by the National Dalit Commission, documents based on that list.

  • If there are more than one surnames within the listed caste, a document from the concerned body certifying the surname as belonging to the listed caste.

(h) For candidates from backward areas:

  • Original letter of recommendation certifying that the candidate has permanent residence in one of the districts Achham, Kalikot, Jajarkot, Jumla, Dolpa, Bajhang, Bajura, Mugu or Humla,

  • Citizenship certificate obtained from the concerned district itself, and

  • Recommendation letter from the concerned Rural Municipality or Municipality certifying that the candidate has permanent residence in the same place up to the time of application submission.

Note: Candidates must scan the original copies of all required documents as specified in the advertisement and upload them in PDF format through the ORMS system. Candidates must upload their photograph, signature, thumb impressions (right and left) and the front and back sides of their citizenship certificate in JPG format.

8. Method of Application Registration and Fee Payment

(a) Visit the Nepal Police online application portal at https://careers.nepalpolice.gov.np, complete the registration process, then log in using the Username and Password received. Fill in all required details and upload clear scanned copies of the original documents. Only after the profile is 100% complete can the application be submitted.

(b) After submitting the online application form, the application fee corresponding to the Application ID received must be paid through the online system by going to the Office of the Auditor General portal and paying via Connect IPS, e-Sewa, Khalti or IME Pay.

For offline payment, the voucher with the transaction code (EBP Code) can be downloaded and deposited at the relevant bank where the revenue account of the respective application collection centre is maintained.

9. Examination Methods

(a) Preliminary health examination and physical fitness test.

(b) Detailed health examination.

(c) Written examination (to be conducted by the Public Service Commission at examination centres designated by the Commission).

  • For objective multiple-choice questions, 20% of the marks will be deducted for each incorrect answer.

  • When answering objective multiple-choice questions, only answers written in capital letters A, B, C, D in English will be accepted.

(d) Special health examination.

(e) Competency test and interview.

10. Examination Locations

Inspector of Police

For all candidates who submit their applications at the Province Police Offices and the Kathmandu Valley Police Office, Ranipokhari, Kathmandu:

  • Preliminary health examination and physical fitness test will be conducted at the National Police Training Academy, Maharajgunj, Kathmandu.

  • Detailed health examination and special health examination will be conducted at Nepal Police Hospital, Maharajgunj, Kathmandu.

  • Competency test and interview will be conducted at Nepal Police Headquarters, Naxal, Kathmandu.

Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) of Police

For candidates who submit their applications at Province Police Training Centres and Kathmandu Valley Police School, Maharajgunj:

  • Preliminary health examination and physical fitness test will be conducted at the respective application collection centres.

  • Detailed health examination will also be conducted at locations designated by the examination centres.

  • Special health examination will be conducted at Nepal Police Hospital, Maharajgunj, Kathmandu.

  • Competency test and interview will be conducted at Nepal Police Headquarters, Naxal, Kathmandu.

11. Contact Dates and Locations

  • Information regarding the schedule of the preliminary health examination and physical fitness test for the Inspector of Police post will be published on 2082/10/21 on the Nepal Police website www.nepalpolice.gov.np.

  • Information regarding the schedule of the preliminary health examination and physical fitness test for the Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) of Police post will be published on 2082/10/25 at the respective police offices where applications are collected, and will also be published on the Nepal Police website www.nepalpolice.gov.np.

In accordance with the order (permanent mandamus) issued on 2079/10/24 by the Honorable Supreme Court in writ no. 078-WO-0662 and related petitions, in which Nepal Police Headquarters, Naxal, Kathmandu is also a respondent, this notice is published to fill positions in accordance with prevailing law for now.

After making necessary legal arrangements regarding the inclusive group, compensation will be provided as per legal provisions for positions that were actually lost due to non-inclusion of positions under the inclusive group in fiscal year 2079/80 from among the total positions to be maintained for the inclusive group.

Further Notes

  1. When submitting the online application, candidates must compulsorily upload scanned copies of the original required certificates. Candidates themselves will be responsible for the certificates submitted.

  2. Applications not filed within the prescribed period, not meeting the conditions, not properly filled, or for which the application fee has not been paid, may be cancelled at any time.

  3. If the prescribed conditions are not met and the application is not accepted, the application fee will not be refunded.

  4. Among candidates who submit applications through the ORMS system within the application period, information regarding candidates whose details and documents are incomplete will be published on the Nepal Police website. If such candidates do not update their incomplete documents within the time specified in that notice, their application forms will be automatically cancelled.

  5. Candidates must bring the admit card and the original citizenship certificate with them at each stage of the examinations.

  6. After completion of each stage of the examination, the results will be published, and only those candidates who pass will be allowed to participate in the next stage.

  7. During the examinations, a single examination will be conducted for open and inclusive categories. Based on the marks obtained, candidates in the inclusive category will compete separately among themselves for the inclusive seats.

  8. When appearing for the interview, candidates must bring:

    • Originals of all certificates and documents required to be submitted with the application, and

    • Self-certified copies marked as “true copy of the original” by the candidates themselves.

  9. As per sub-rule (5) of Rule 13 of the Police Regulations, 2071 (with amendments), if additional positions are created or become vacant after the advertisement has been published by the Post Fulfilment Committee and before the written examination results are published, the Committee may, by publishing a public notice, add that number of positions to the same advertisement.

  10. The notice related to this advertisement and the syllabuses of the examinations to be conducted at various stages can be obtained from the Nepal Police website www.nepalpolice.gov.np.
