Grade 12 Examination Begins Across Nepal with Over 511,000 Students

The Grade 12 examinations have officially started on Sunday across various exam centers in Nepal. According to the National Examination Board, a total of 511,525 students are participating in this year’s exam.

Out of the total, 395,908 students are regular examinees, and 115,617 are partial examinees.

Examination Centers and Distribution

The board has assigned 1,591 examination centers to students from 5,202 schools. Of these, 38 students from Everest School in Japan are taking the exam from their local center.

Among the 77 districts, Manang has the fewest examinees, with only 45 students, while Kathmandu has the highest number, with 68,133 students. Manang and Mustang each have one exam center, while Kathmandu has the most, with 162 centers.

Human Resources and Delayed Schedule

A total of 48,209 personnel have been mobilized to conduct the examination, which will continue until Jestha 2, 2082.

The exams, initially scheduled for Baisakh 11, were postponed by 10 days due to a strike led by the Nepal Teachers' Federation and street protests centered in Kathmandu.

Exam Controller Krishna Prasad Sharma issued a public statement urging all stakeholders to maintain the integrity of the examination by ensuring a fair, respectful, disciplined, organized, and student-friendly environment.

Province-wise Student Participation

  • Karnali Province: 38,888 students (lowest participation)

  • Bagmati Province: 135,240 students (highest participation)

  • Koshi Province: 82,871 students

  • Madhesh Province: 69,808 students

  • Gandaki Province: 43,349 students

  • Lumbini Province: 90,678 students

  • Sudurpaschim Province: 50,654 students

Security and Monitoring

To ensure proper monitoring, each district has formed a District Examination Coordination Committee, chaired by the Chief District Officer. These committees will oversee the monitoring and supervision of the exams.

Except for the exam center chiefs, the board has restricted mobile phones inside the exam centers.

Digital Delivery of Question Papers

The board has been using electronic means to deliver question papers as part of its ongoing initiative since the COVID-19 pandemic. Exam center chiefs are instructed to download the question papers using their unique user IDs 30 minutes before the exam begins.

The question papers must be printed in the presence of the center chief, assistant chief, and security official assigned to the center.

Examination Preparations and Grading Policy

The board has completed all necessary pre-exam preparations, including:

  • Finalization of exam centers

  • Orientation for center chiefs

  • Coordination with local security agencies

  • Management of confidential materials

  • Monitoring protocols

As per the Letter Grading Guidelines 2078, students must score at least 35% in each theoretical subject to receive a graded result. Failure to meet this requirement will result in an “ungraded” outcome.
